My Services

The task of applying to college can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.

In my years as a college consultant, it’s been my experience that when students view the application process as an adventure—a journey of self-discovery—clients not only have a better chance of landing the college of their dreams, but also get an added benefit in the process: they gain invaluable insight about themselves that can serve them throughout their lives.

Colleges are looking for applicants with a compelling story, a personal narrative that captivates and enthralls. And everyone—I mean everyone—has a story to tell. As an avid storyteller (and consumer of stories), one of my proven skills is helping students to build a cohesive narrative about themselves.

Who are you? What are your dreams? What challenges have you undergone? What personal setbacks have you encountered? What has experience taught you? Our work together will result in your building an honest, distinct and compelling narrative about you—your hopes and dreams, your life thus far—one that captures the interest of admission officers, and makes you stand apart from the crowd.

How We Begin

If the student and parents would like to work together, I will ask the parents and student to submit a set of materials and complete 2 questionnaires: one from the parent(s) and one from the student.

— Transcript from high school (9th grade on); transcript from a community college, if applicable

— All exam scores (SAT, ACT, AP)

— Preliminary list of colleges

— List of extracurriculars both in and outside of school

— List of summer activities

— Resume or list of any paid/unpaid jobs or internships

— Artistic resume (music, art, drama)

— Writing sample, written and edited solely by the student

— Additional questions, such as student’s strengths, challenges, important life experiences, career hopes and dreams

Next Steps

Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12

— Determine career interests and goals through a series of career exploration exercises

— Design a comprehensive plan that will showcase the student’s unique strengths

— Create a strong academic and standardized testing profile (may include advice on course selection, test prep programs)

— Develop an impressive leadership resume (focus on extracurricular activities, highly-regarded summer internships, community and school projects and roles)

— Create college lists (“reach,” “match,” and “safety” schools)

— Brainstorm essay topics for the ever-so-important college personal statement and supplemental essays

— Offer patient, constructive criticism during the writing and rewriting process of the student’s personal statement, and other required essays, with an emphasis on helping the student discover and trust their own unique voice on the page

— Coach student on how to ask for excellent letters of recommendation from teachers, employers, internship supervisors/mentors

— Discuss early action, early decision applications and time management issues related to meeting deadlines for multiple applications

— Assemble a competitive final college application before submitting to a college

— And anything else that’s needed to lessen the overall process— both for the student and parent(s)
